Troop 509, Olympic Peninsula 50 Miler,  Shi Shi Beach Washington, 1998
The shop was a mess!
It was anyone’s guess,
Where things were at,
And that was that!

Yeah! Over a year,
Since serious care,
Had taken hold,
Of that object abode -

I spent all the day,
And some of the night,
Placing things back,
Making it right!

It looked much improved,
Though not like brand new,
I thought I was done,
But tomorrow had come!

Back in the shop,
The clutter was gone,
But now could see,
All that should be!

Adjusting the stuff,
Mending the hurt,
This part of the job,
Was tougher than first.

Wow what a grand sight!
Now late in the night,
I thought I was done,
But tomorrow had come!

Back in the shop,
With things in there place,
Now I could see,
The improvements I need.

With this over there,
And that over here,
This out of the way,
That set on a tray,

Less time it will take,
Much more to make,
Productivity awake!
More time at the lake!

Life is the same.
Refinement each day,
With things in there place,
When balance regained -

More smiles on our face,
Less effort in life’s race,
More friends gather near,
More reasons to cheer!

Mogollon Rim, 2012
Reaching low,
Flipped the switch,
Blade quiet slowed -
Sawdust thick,
Upon the floor –

Tools set,
About the shop -
Each pulled,
Their share,
Their daily task –

Broom and pan,
Garbage can -
Clean and prep –
Tomorrow come,
Begin again –

Bumped from shelf
The matchbox fell,
To the floor -
Now scattered sticks,
Lay among the chips –

Glazing down -
No fire nor spark
Random Art
Through dusty air -
Just sat and stared –

At my feet -
Potential seethe -
Danger lurks -
For fire! For blast!
For jeopardy!

Hazard sure!
Warning sounds
In my ear -
But no ignite -
So safety here –

Matches lay
‘Mid tinder dry
Possibility ripe
Provoking thought -
Be of -- not in.

Potential ruin
Without ruin
Without a strike,
Danger halt,
Though safety frail,

Without ignite –
Inert they lie,
Match and fuel,
Side by side,
An unlit pyre –

Peril near –
It’s all about –
Choose and act,
And good or bad,

Wyatt and Austin, Show Low Arizona, September 2014

This little ditty’s called
The Chicken and the Grub
It’s on the same side
With The Spider and the Fly

But, I didn’t write
The Spider and the Fly -

It moves quite fast
Though the grub not so
Now - Right to the point
Or the beak sort a speak
Oh - and yester eve -
The chicken didn’t eat!

Garden soil’s fresh,
It was early morn,
You can guess rest -
I shan’t spoil your fun,
But know some fights -
Are best undone –

Thomas, Jason, Brian, Jon and Brian, Mesquite Wash Arizona, 2013
Zombie war
Must be the gore
They’re at the store
We all want more!

Walking dead
Good v. bad
If they get your dad
It’s very sad

Strike a blow
To stop the flow
All you need to know -
Aim high not low!

Can’t go to bed
Now blast their head
Whoa they’re still dead
What’s all the dread?

Hey, its serious stuff!
And pretty rough!
Their really tough!
Now don’t slip up!

If you feel ill
Check your will
Need a meal
Try your friend Phil

As all can see
Survival’s key
Get them not me!
Don’t call mommy!

We need more ways
To end their day
New ways to slay
It’s just like play

At work let’s talk -
At school take stock -
And get new locks
With two new Glocks

Gone on for years
It stokes our fears
Brings some to tears
They’re getting near!

Let’s buy a gun -
Now this is fun!
Stand in the sun!
No need to run!

Need food to store -
Dude! Close the door!
Inside’s a bore -
Let’s go explore!

Aw, their favorite haunt
It’s just a jaunt
From our own dump
It’s time to hunt!

Yeah, zombie prose
Is easy stuff
It goes and goes
A lot of fluff

We must stand tough
And end this stuff
Next? Z’s the end
Of the alphabet

Is there nothing left?
Ouch, I’ve been bit!
I can’t sit still!
Where is Phil!
