Osaka Japan, 1979

“Clean as you go.”
The mentor said.
Touch it once -
Then thrown away

A youth ignored -
The lazy sort!
No need of thrift -
He’ll sweep tonight!

The old man gazed,
The lazy sort -
In the bin – thrown away.
Won’t sweep tonight.

USS Constitution, Boston, 1991
Morning warms the valley
Drawing breath from lofty hills
Across a lake - My sail fills -
Lake’s bounty tugging the tiller

Keel slicing water
Lapping on the bow
Mother Nature hard at work
No need for oar

I steal the wind
But give it back,
Silent glides boat
Peaceful Pulls sail

Leaning windward
Across a lake I roam
Evening hills - draw the breath
To take me home

Tea Ceremony, Kobe Japan, 1979

Art and music weave a path
Displacing wrath -
Guiding mind, Swallowing time.
Choice’s mine

Melodic lyrics, paint and ink
Weaving stories o’re what I think
Raging torrents - stream
Changing mood and scene

Young Garfunkel - alone
There - a tiled stairwell
Enchanted voice – Held!
His own – Angelic echoing dwell!

Simon poet and guitar.
Moves us to where we are -
Time - place - boat and train -
Sounding darkness - Patterning rain!

He suggests
Oh! Barely hints
Dickinson and Frost -
Tiny coin - Huge clock -

Half a stanza - A subtle whiff
Implied regard, stupor break,
Beauty abounding
