Relativity

Gilbert Arizona, 2014

Arizona summer sun -
Bore down –
On Rose’s crown.

And yet she yield,
Midst thorn and strife,
A bud tho’ small and mild,
A blossom bringing life,
Beauty but few hours seek,
Instead of days or week.

Gold

Gilbert Arizona, 2014

I heard her sing!
It filled my soul!
Lovely melody with word.

My thought? “I’d pay,”
“To feel again that way”.

Where is the line ‘tween -
Good enough and beauty bold?
When is the craft worth homage?
When is the art worth gold?

Blossoms

Blue Ridge Reservoir Arizona, 2012

If a favor - I asked of you -
To make for me some Beauty.
What would you create?
What blossom would I see or hear?
Or smell or feeling - taste?

How long a time would it take?
Not that we’re counting days,
But is this thing well practiced?
Or something new - a Strain!

If I asked of you
For Beauty Rich –
No – I Shan’t - If –
Our need too Great!
Please make!

Silent Healing

Kyoto Japan, Spring 1980
There are words I hold,
And do not speak,
Things of interest,
To me.

Of what affect,
An action had,
A decision,
Another made.

Some were done -
The best they could.
Others folly,
Or Accident.

I could use a critic’s pen,
And cut a wound so deep.
But choose instead to hold,
And hope,
A healing we won't need.

Sight

Kintetsu, Kobe Japan, 1979

When I look --
I only see
Things familiar to me.

Architecture
Drew my eye
Younger then was I

The angled beam,
A lengthy span,
The seamless seam.

Awareness born,
Each thing I learn,
Or hear or yearn,

I sigh --
With critical eye!
Or sated smile!

Yet mind forget
I cannot have
Though someday yet

All Things -
Before my eyes!
As God -
