Bull’s Eye

Carson and Max, Flagstaff Arizona, October 2014

Squeezing – the lever
A Pin springs free
Striking the Prime
Explodes - Oh My Me!
The casing expelled
Copper and lead
Escapes down the barrel
And into Hot air

Thuh, tho, tho, thud
Black steel sticks
Blade tip deep

Nocked on a string
Now arrow set free

In all of these three
The thing that I seek
Is the feeling I get
When the bull's eye's struck.

The satisfaction
Now there – Quickly wanes
This fade draws
Me back again

Terracotta Warriors, Xi'an China, May 2013

Is it similar to
A wrong way view
Through a Binocular’s tube?
A Faraway sight.
Is that what it’s like?
Or Photos of pictures
On a wall down some hall?

It takes only an instant
Dying from a distance
Certainly Serene –
Passive and clean.

Reality though
Is surely not so –
Heartache and pain
Sorrow and Strain

“How does she fair?”
She’s dying out there –
“Oh, don’t tell me that!”
“I only want to know”
“Uh – Where she is at”.

Those “Others”
Out there –
How do they fair?
Where do they turn?
What do they seek?
Is it under a stone?
Or the crook of a tree?
When solace is lost –
What words –
What cost?

Seems only a Few
Know what to do.

But where are they now?
Checked out?

Gates of Nijo-jo Kyoto Japan, April 2006
Things so big
They’ve burned a hole
In our collective
Conscience soul

Of Where we were
When we first heard
The news of how
Yes every word

When man stepped foot upon the moon
Challenger shuttle splits in two
Berlin wall is pulled and falls
Planes collide in towers too

I remember where I sat or stood
When first I saw or listened to
Though many years are passed and gone
The memory still is sound and strong.
