Kayaking on Saguaro Lake Arizona, September 2005

I caught a cold and went to bed,
My throat and nose and head.
I slept all day without a care,
A thing like this for me is rare.

Except for aches in back and legs,
The rest was nice, current ebb.
A good excuse to find repose,
No care upon my pillow.

Olivia and Brealyn, Showlow 4th of July Parade, Showlow Arizona

Ol’ Green eyed horsefly –
Do not stay!
You’re far too slow –
To flee away.

Denise and Kelly, Baby Quilting, November 2015, Gilbert Arizona

One of grandma’s favorite sounds
Is a low and grumbly roar
It issues from the dishwasher
Setting on the floor.

She cannot go on holiday
Without that gravelly throb
Spreading from the kitchen
And echoing off the walls
It speaks to her
With words not heard
Says, “Everything is clean!”
That’s okay, I suppose
But why’s the sound so mean?

Braelyn, Olivia and Grandma June 2015, Gilbert Arizona

Two little sisters
Sat to eat
Hearty breakfasts
Holiday week

Pancakes with bacon
Pancakes and eggs

One won’t eat bacon
One won’t eat eggs

Two little sisters
Murmuring excuse
One ol’ grandpa
Smiling amused
