Her Things

Rodney and Denise, Mesa Arizona, March 1982

Her Memoirs
Peruse for hours
Not digital
Ceramic dolls

No video
Things she owned
Not written down
Trips out of town

Awards pinned there
Now stuck on here
Trinket in a nook
Shelves crammed with books

Drawers filled with care
I stand and stare
Each puzzle piece
A story speak

Essential few?
Oh what to do?
To capture such
How much

How well
To still retell
No crystal ball
Can’t store it all

Her life and times
No longer chimes
My hours now
Her memoirs

Rikisha to Kyomizu Dera, Kyoto Japan, March 2017

They speak the good
But not the bad.
Yet these are ends of
The same rail track

With every soul
Helped on its way
There's another cold
At end of day

Don’t be quick
To pat your back
To say all’s good
To close the sack

One life begins
We can’t pretend
That another’s life’s
Not at an end

Spring Daisies, Okutama Japan, April 2017

There was a man
A Gordian knot
T’was poorly tied
Yet not pulled taut

Two tangled nets
All twisted wrong
One full of rot
Some pieces strong

From the ground
My hands began
To work around
Untie a strand

I cleared the fray
Began to mend
A path to right
Good to lend

While stronger now
Some kinks remain
Will twists resolve –
In coming days?
